The California Ballroom is just a few blocks from Lake Merritt in Oakland's financial district. Built in 1926 as the grand ballroom of the elegant Leamington Hotel, it showcases a majestic high gold leaf ceiling, a 500 square foot stage with curtains and spotlights, and a a 700 square foot dance floor, perhaps the largest in the Bay Area.
Although the Leamington no longer operates as a hotel, the impressive Art Deco Ballroom is still going strong. It was renovated in 1986 to its original historic elegance. This landmark space is one of the few locations in the East Bay that can seat 300 for dinner.

Original Art Deco chandeliers hang from the soaring ceiling. Burgundy draperies and carpet, gold detailing above the doors and mirrors and a disco ball complete the festive decor. The California Ballroom's impressive stage can be used for your head table or to feature a band, DJ or keynote speaker. This is truly Oakland's most elegant and unique location for special events.

The California Ballroom lends itself to buffets or sit down dinners, as well as conferences and seminars. Our kitchen provides plenty of space for the caterer of your choice. Capacity for sit down dinners is 300, 400 for theater style seating and 600 for a standing reception.
A bar, situated in a corner of the ballroom, can accomodate your beverages. The bride or other honored guests will find a lounge/changing room on the mezzanine.
